The cheapest key you will ever buy is the one made while you still have a working original. We copy it, program it to the car, and you have a second key before you ever need it.
Your registration tells us the job and the price before we set off.

The expensive part of a key is getting to the car and the first programming. With an original to work from, most of that disappears.
When every key is lost we have to read the lock, cut a blade from scratch and program the car with no working key to hand. A spare skips most of that: the original gives us the cut and the car accepts a new key more easily.
It also happens at a time you choose rather than at eleven at night in a car park, which means no emergency premium and no waiting around.
If you are down to one key, this is the cheapest advice on the site. Losing it turns a spare into a replacement, and a replacement costs considerably more.
Everything below is in the figure you get on the phone.
Home, work or anywhere the car is parked. No trip to a dealer.
Blade cut from the original, chip programmed to the car.
You start the car with the new key before paying.
Lock and unlock buttons set up where the key has them.
Much cheaper made at the same visit.
Guaranteed on the key and the coding.
As with a replacement, the key type decides the price far more than the make.
Metal blade with a transponder. Most cars up to about 2010.
Flip or fixed blade with buttons. Most cars since 2010.
Proximity entry and push-button start.
Lost every key already? Then it is a replacement rather than a spare — see the replacement keys page.

Call 0115 960 4128A key shop can cut the blade, but it will not start a car built after the late nineties without the chip being programmed. That is the part we do.
Much cheaper. The visit and the programming session are the costly part; a second key at the same time is a fraction of the first.
Someone needs to be, with the working key and proof of ownership. It does not have to be at home.
Around half an hour for a chipped blade, forty minutes for a remote, longer for keyless fobs.
Yes: same blade, same buttons, same start. You test it before paying.
